Saint Records / Columbia RecordsNow that her new album When I Get Home is out, Solange Knowles wants everyone to hear it — that’s why she’s staging special listening parties all across Houston’s Third Ward this Sunday.
“When I Get Home: A Special Album Experience” will take place at a variety of locations, including a theater, a church, a salon, a community center, a gym, a museum, a bank, and a housing project. Unfortunately, as you might expect, all the events are sold out.
When I Get Home is described as “an exploration of origin,” and, “the next phase in Solange’s evolution as an artist.” The album, “asks the question, ‘How much of ourselves do we bring with us versus leave behind in our evolution?'” To answer that question, Solange returned to Third Ward Houston.
When I Get Home features contributions from Tyler, the Creator, Gucci Mane, Metro Boomin, Playboi Carti, Devin the Dude, The-Dream, and more, as well as samples from the Third Ward’s own Debbie Allen, Phylicia Rashad, poet Pat Parker, and Scarface.
