Gilbert Carrasquillo/FilmMagicSolange deleted her Twitter account suddenly Tuesday night.
A screen capture of what reportedly was her final tweet, shows the singer addressing the arrest of an activist in North Carolina in connection with the toppling of a Confederate monument on Monday.
“[D]eleting my twitter soon, but before I dip when we gonna pull up? & what we gotta do to get my new hero Takiyah Thompson free,” she reportedly wrote.
The screen cap of the tweet was making the rounds on the internet Tuesday night at the same time as a screen cap of an Instagram Note reportedly from Solange that addressed the white supremacist protest in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend.
“[B]een trying to study myself,” she apparently wrote, “been trying to practice self preservation during the time and not give racist ugly a** f*** bois who reek of citronella my energy so that I can preserve my spirit to perform this album.”
The note, posted by a Twitter user, includes a string of expletives directed at white supremacists, Nazis and Confederate monuments, concluding with an evocation of her son’s return to school.
“[M]y son[‘]s first day of school has been in the midst of seeing these bulls*** imaged that still tell him this system was built to be against him,” she wrote. “[T]hinking about demanding he not be required to take ‘American History’ because its deep dark rooted ugliness continues to live right not, right before our eyes.”
