Image Courtesy UniversalToday marks the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s battering of New Orleans, and Solange Knowles is among the artists featured in a day filled with special activities as part of the rebuilding celebration in that city.

Beyonce’s sister will headline a benefit concert at the House of Blues with special surprise guests. The performance is presented by Brad Pitt’s Make It Right charity, which he founded in 2007 to rebuild the city’s Lower 9th Ward with affordable housing for people affected by the hurricane. The neighborhood was inundated after the city’s levee system failed. Make It Right has built 109 homes and breaks ground on new homes every month. The houses are available to teachers, fire fighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, and people who lived in the Lower 9th Ward before Hurricane Katrina.

Solange lives in New Orleans, and according to Make it Right spokesperson Taylor Royle, she “embodies so much of what people all over the world love about New Orleans: creativity, enthusiasm, innovation and an experience you can’t find anywhere else, with anyone else.”
