by

Jason Merritt/FilmMagicThe Verzuz battle is taking fans way back to enjoy the soulful sounds of Gladys Knight and Patti Labelle.

On Tuesday, Verzuz co-creators Swizz Beatz and Timbaland announced the next guests to appear on their music celebration series.

“The master class we’ve ALL been waiting for! @MsGladysKnight vs. @MsPattiLaBelle,” the caption read on Instagram. “Leave ya church clothes on all Sunday and pull up to the affair of all affairs. Y’all gotta get dressed up in ya Sunday’s best for this one.”

The battle will take place live from Philadelphia at the legendary Fillmore for the “Ultimate Verzuz.”

Fans are hoping the two legendary singers will play their Grammy-nominated “Superwoman” collaboration featuring Dionne Warwick, written by Babyface, and classic hits from their days as the leading ladies of two legendary groups in soul music.

Gladys Knight & the Pips claimed their success in the late 1960s and 70s with signature hits such as “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye). Knight went on to achieve seven Grammy Awards and solo classics such as “Love Overboard,” and “License to Kill.”

Meanwhile, Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles used to set Apollo stages on fire performing “C’est la Vie.” The two-time Grammy-winner has several hits under her belt, including “If Only You Knew,” “On My Own,” and 1975’s “Lady Marmalade,” which was remixed by Mya, Lil Kim, Christina Aguilera, and Pink in 2002.

Tune in Sunday, Sep. 13 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Apple Music and the Verzuz Instagram account.
