Jason Merritt/FilmMagicA report surfaced earlier this week that Janet Jackson might be getting back together with her ex, Jermaine Dupri, but now a Janet source says the singer is definitely “not in a position” to start dating.
A source tells E! News, Dupri and Jackson, who is soon to be divorced from her husband Wissam Al Mana, are close, but definitely not in a relationship.
“Jermaine and Janet have remained friends through all these years and never lost touch. They had a period when they broke up and didn’t talk for a bit but overcame that and found friendship again,” the insider explained to E!
“Jermaine has a crazy love for Janet and they have been speaking more since the breakup. Janet and Jermaine trust each other and they have history.”
But according to the source, Janet’s focus is on her infant son Eissa and her current State of the World Tour.
“Janet is really not in a position to get involved with someone at this time,” the source explained. “She is open, though, for something more down the line. They are in the talks of working on some new projects.”
In a July 2016 interview with ABC Radio, Dupri joked about his relationship with Janet, saying that even with all his other accomplishments, fans still want him to be with Janet, who he dated for seven years.
Addressing the fans, Dupri laughed, “Why don’t ya’ll just tell her that ya’ll still wish that we were still together and that ya’ll don’t really care for anything going on with her unless I’m involved?”
