Warner Bros. RecordsStevie Wonder’s protégé Andra Day will release her debut album Cheers to the Fall on Friday, and Thursday, she performed her new single “Rise Up” on Good Morning America. The song will be heard in a new Beats by Dre commercial featuring Serena Williams that will air during the U.S. Open.

“I look at all of us as brothers and sisters and a body working together,” says Day. “’Rise Up’ is saying one piece isn’t better than the other, and when one part is struggling, I’m going to help and lift you up.  I will rise up with you.”

Day calls her album “a biography in the form of soul music.”

Cheers to the Fall is a message to everyone that we need to dive into things that scare and challenge us,” she adds. “When we do so, we may not always have success every time we try; but every time we try and maybe stumble or fall, we get back up and try again, a little smarter and a littler stronger.”

The San Diego native is opening 11 dates on Lenny KravitzStrut tour which continues through September 17 in The Woodlands, Texas.
