Study: Press Covers Beyoncé More than It Covers Environmental Topics

by

Eric McCandless/CBSBeyonce is so popular that she interest in her seemingly dwarfs interest in environmental stories.

According to a new study, news stories mentioning Queen Bey were more than eleven times more common than stories mentioning environmental issues like deforestation and ocean health in 2014.

Project for Improved Environmental Coverage has found that environmental stories make up less than one percent of headlines, while there were more news stories about Beyoncé than about six out of the ten broad environmental topics the group tracked last year.

“It is hard to argue that Beyoncé warrants 92 times more mentions than deforestation on network TV news programs,” the Project announced in a statement, “given the important role forests play as our planet’s lungs and that many millions of people and species depend on them.”
