ABC/Randy HolmesSZA has another reason to celebrate the new year as her latest single, “The Weekend,” becomes her first song to reach the top of Billboard‘s Hot R&B Songs chart.
She is the first woman as a lead artist to top the chart this year, following Rihanna who hit number one with “Needed Me” in October 2016. The video, directed by Solange, debuted December 21, and the song is nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance. SZA is up for a total of five Grammys, including Best New Artist, and Best Urban Contemporary Album for Ctrl.
The song samples Justin Timberlake’s “Until The End of Time” from his 2006 album, FutureSex/Love Sounds. “The Weekend” is SZA’s second straight platinum hit, following her previous single, “Love Galore” featuring Travis Scott.
