‘The Game’ to get second revival at original network, The CW

Deadline has learned that the comedy series, which helped to launch The CW back in 2006, is on its way back to its original network.

Created by Akil and American Soul co-creator Devon Greggory, the original series followed a young woman who decides to put her career on hold for the success of her rising star athlete boyfriend. It starred Tia MowryPooch HallHosea ChanchezCoby BellBrittany Daniel and Wendy Raquel Robinson.

The new series, written by both Akil and Greggory, is expected to bring back some of the original cast. However, this time around, the previous cast will “help a bunch of knuckle-head new-schoolers navigate the ruthless game of football on and off the field.”

As previously noted, this is the second revival of the series. The Game, which was a spinoff of Akil’s UPN/The CW comedy series Girlfriends, ran on The CW between 2006 and 2009. It was then aired on BET from 2011 to 2015 and starred BrandyLauren London and Jay Ellis.
