The live, the funky, the spunky: TLC says Lisa Left Eye Lopes’ vocals will be featured on final album

by

ABC RadioTLC‘s fifth and final album, TLC, arrives next Friday.

It’s also the group’s first release since third member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was killed in a car accident in 2002.

Even so, members T-Boz and Chili tell E! News that we can expect to hear the late artist’s vocals in an interlude track on the disc.

“It’s her talking. It’s from an interview,” T-Boz confirmed. “We took some live music and played under it and made it a beat. It’s the essence of Lisa that you remember her for. The live, the funky, the spunky.”

Why did TLC wait fifteen years top drop a new album?

“Timing is everything.” T-Boz explained, “The fans were urging and asking so we did it. It just felt right, so we went for it. Why not?”

The disc was made possible via money donated by fans on Kickstarter. More than 4,000 people, including some very famous names such as Katy PerryNew Kids on the Block and Bette Midler, helped raise over $430,000 for the completion of the studio project.

“We could not believe that,” said Chili. “We broke records for the biggest campaign in two days,” added T-Boz.

T-Boz continued, “It was amazing ’cause we were really skeptical about doing it in the first place and then when our manager brought it to us. And he explained the freedom that we can have and how we could do it in a fun way with rewards.”

TLC drops everywhere June 30. You can catch TLC as headliners on the I Love The ’90s — The Party Continues Tour, kicking off July 7 in Everett, WA.
