TLC’s Chilli Says Natural Hair Is Empowering for Women

Leon Bennett/Getty ImagesTLC singer Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas says having natural hair is empowering for women and recommends that women embrace their natural beauty.

The “Waterfalls” singer explained the benefits of being natural in a new “Curls Run the World” campaign by African-American lifestyle website Madame Noire and cosmetics retailer Sephora.

Being natural is incredibly empowering for women because it’s just who you are. You’re embracing all the beautiful things about you from your head to your toes. Because when you mask so much of your natural beauty people don’t get to see that,” the singer said.

In the interview, Chilli emphasized the importance of health,  especially staying away from beverages other than water which the singer refers to as the “devil’s juice.”

“What we eat will tell everything when it comes to our bodies, our skin, our hair, how we feel, your endurance for things. When you drink water and stay hydrated all the time it’s good for all the organs in your body,” Chilli tells the lifestyle site.

“Your hair loves it, everything loves water, you know. So I don’t drink soda, I don’t drink the devil’s juice. Everyone knows what I mean when I say that. I don’t drink no alcohol, never!”

The “Curls Run the World,” campaign captures conversations around black women embracing their natural hair types, as well as their product picks for each natural texture.
