They will join rapper Doug E. Fresh at the event on May 17 held at the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in the Motor City. Stone and Fresh will perform, and Usher will serve as a presenter. Former Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, who is also a NBA Hall of Famer, will be among the honorees.

The theme of the event is “Men of Courage: Advancing the Narrative of African American Men.” The program “will celebrate achievements of the past, present and future, while highlighting select African American men for their diverse, complex and valiant stories.”

“Their leadership through family, business and philanthropy has been felt throughout American communities,” says Ziad Ojakli, group vice president, government and community relations, Ford Motor Company. “They are true unsung heroes, and we are proud to honor such a diverse and accomplished group of men this year.”

Proceeds from the Ford Freedom Awards will benefit the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit.
