Valerie Simpson joins Grammy Salute to Music Legends

Earl Gibson III/Getty ImagesValerie Simpson has been added to the list of performers at the Grammy Salute to Music Legends.

The six-time Grammy nominee joins the star-studded lineup for the July 11 concert at New York’s Beacon Theatre, which includes Charlie Wilson, Dionne Warwick, Kirk Franklin, and Andra Day.

Simpson is currently touring with Paul Shaffer’s World’s Most Dangerous Band. She’s also celebrating the 50th anniversary of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” the classic song she wrote with her late husband Nick Ashford, recorded first by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, and again by Diana Ross.

The Grammy event will celebrate the Recording Academy’s 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award honorees: Sly and the Family Stone frontman Sly StoneNina SimoneShirley Caesar, jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal, rockers The Velvet Underground, and country legends Charley Pride and Jimmie Rodgers.

The show will be recorded and will air as an episode of the long-running PBS series Great Performances later this year.
