The only witness who heard cops announce themselves in Breonna Taylor raid changed is reported to have changed his story, according to and exclusive story from the website VICE.
According, VICE, which obtained documents and audio, “The witness identified as Aarin Sarpee was picking up his daughter from a unit above Taylor’s when the raid took place.
He initially told police that he did not hear police say who they were before ramming Taylor’s door in. It wasn’t until he was interviewed a second time, about two months after the raid that Sarpee said he heard police say, “This is the cops.”
Many people are still reeling from the Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron’s announcement that there would be no charges against the officers involved in a botched drug raid that ultimately led to Taylor’s death. Cameron said the police shooting of Taylor was “justified to protect themselves. In that justification, he said that one witness corroborated the three officers’ insistence that they knocked and identified themselves at Taylor’s Louisville home.
Nevermind, that 11 other residents say they didn’t hear the cops announce themselves, or that inside the apartment, Taylor’s boyfriend said that he did not hear them announce themselves; instead, Kenny Walker thought he was being burglarized and fired a warning shot that triggered a tragic chain of events.
VICE obtained documents and audio on Saturday.
