Vivica A. Fox becomes series regular for final season of ‘Empire’

by

Chuck Hodes/FOXThe final season of Empire will be special for Vivica A. Fox: Her recurring character, Candace Mason, will become a series regular.

“ITS OFFICIAL DAWLINGS! I’M NOW A SERIES REGULAR ON @EmpireFOX #LIFEISGOOD #GODISGOOD #BLESSED #RESPECT #EMPIRERULES #CANDACE,” she tweeted Thursday.

The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association Empire press event in Los Angeles.

Candace was introduced in season two as the older sister of Cookie Lyon, portrayed by Taraji P. Henson. Her role has since grown every season, leading to her promotion to regular status. In the show, it was revealed that Candace was being abused by her son, Franklin, who was suffering from mental health issues.

“One thing I love about Empire is that they tackle taboo subjects that other shows won’t,” Fox said, according to Deadline.com. “Now that I have been made a series regular, I want to find out more about my son and what’s going on — I don’t know yet, so don’t ask!”

The Independence Day star says that she will travel to Chicago at the end of this month to begin production on the sixth and final season of Empire, which will premiere September 24 on Fox.
