Courtesy of Universal Music/Def Jam RecordingsJhené Aiko brought the party to the The Ellen DeGeneres Show Friday, performing her latest single “Happiness Over Everything (H.O.E.).” from her third studio album, Chilombo.
Following an intro by guest host Demi Lovato, Jhené recreated the song’s video party scene with tiki torches, Polynesian dancers and images of volcanoes in the background, with help from Miguel and Future.
Miguel opened the performance softly as Jhené kept her cool on stage, while Future had the crowd screaming when he came out for his verse. At the end, Jhené, Miguel and Future started a crowd sway, singing, “Happiness over everything, over anything and its everything to me.” Demi then announced that everyone in the audience would receive a free copy of Chilombo.
On Chilombo, which means ‘beast’ in Japanese, Jhené embraces her strength, confidence and power as a woman, creator and healer, with advance singles “Triggered,” “None of Your Concern” and “P*$$Y Fairy (OTW).” The Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter describes Chilombo as “a real story about love, loss, anger, forgiveness, sorrow, freedom and all the things life has to offer, with all of its ups and downs,” adding, “Nothing’s perfect, but its all beautiful word.”
Aiko also celebrates her amazing team of family and friends, “who aren’t afraid to step back during my eruptions, who support and join me on all my adventures..who challenge me, who comfort and support me..and who give me my space, but never leave me alone long enough to self destruct. I love You and I love this journey…it has truly been the reward.”
