TheWeeknd.com; Facebook.com/2ChainzThe Weeknd‘s newly released album, Kiss Land, debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 albums after selling 96,000 copies in its first week, according to the publication.

The Toronto singer was less than 3,000 copies shy from taking the top spot, which Keith Urban‘s Fuse is currently occupying.  Despite coming in second, The Weeknd tweeted, “AWWH. SO CLOSE THEY HAD TO RECOUNT!!! STILL GOT THE BEST FANS!! THANK YOU XO.”  The singer’s latest first week figures bested sales of his 2012 mixtape compilation, Trilogy, which debuted at #4 with 86,000 copies sold.

Elsewhere, 2 Chainz‘ sophomore album, B.O.A.T.S. II #ME TIME, entered at #3 with 63,000 copies sold.  The total marks a relatively slow sales start compared with his debut, Based on a T.R.U. Story, which sold more than twice as many copies — 147,000 — during it’s first week of release in 2012.

Meanwhile, Janelle Monáe has landed her best sales week yet with The Electric Lady.  The set has become her first top 10 album,  positioned at #5 with 47,000 copies sold.  Tamar Braxton’s Love and War slips from #2 to #8 with an additional 35,000 copies sold, while John Legend’s Love in the Future falls from #4 to #10 with 30,000 copies sold.
