Longtime radio and television host Wendy Williams took to her new Instagram account on Wednesday with a message for her publicist, Howard Bragman, who spoke on her behalf following news that her talk show will no longer air.
“Mr. Bragman although I appreciate your concerns and respect you immensely I have not authorized you to make any statements on my behalf regarding my current status with Debmar Mercury. Again thanks for your continuing concern and support,” read the statement posted in an Instagram story.
Producers of the Wendy Williams Show revealed on Tuesday that the hour-long nationally syndicated talk show will not return after 13 seasons, amid Williams’ ongoing health issues.
Bragman spoke on behalf of Williams on Tuesday saying, “She, more than anyone, understands the reality of syndicated television — you can’t go to the marketplace and sell a show that’s the ‘Maybe Wendy Show.’” Bragman also commented on Wendy’s health, stating she has been “assured…that should her health get to a point where she can host again and should her desire be that she hosts again that she would be back on TV at that time.”
Bragman added that Williams “understands” why the decision was made and is “incredibly grateful” for the support during this time.
In response to Williams’ online response, Bragman said, “I’m not honestly convinced of the source of that social media post, so when my old friend Wendy FaceTimes me personally and we alone have a chance to discuss recent events, together we can figure out the best path forward.”
On Tuesday’s Wendy Williams Show, actress and comedian Sherri Shepherd, who’s filled in as a guest host on the show, announced her new show, Sherri, is set to premiere this fall and will air in the time slot currently occupied by Wendy’s show.
