Kem on “What Christmas Means” Re-Release: “I Wasn’t Done Yet”

by

MusicByKEM.comThis holiday season, fans will have several Christmas albums to choose from, including Mary J. Blige‘s A Mary Christmas, Tamar Braxton‘s Winter Loverland and Kem‘s re-released holiday album What Christmas Means, which hit shelves on Tuesday.

The recently issued set boasts four newly recorded bonus tracks, including “Jesus,” featuring Patti LaBelle and Ronald Isley, as well as his  duet with Ledisi on “Be Mine for Christmas.” So what inspired the crooner to create a new deluxe edition of the album?

“I came out with the deluxe edition because I wasn’t done yet,” Kem tells ThisIsRNB.com. “We added some really great music to this record, and my hope is that this album will continue to be a mainstay in you all’s homes during the holiday season for years to come.”

“Working with Ms. Patti LaBelle and Mr. Isley on ‘Jesus’ was incredible,” reflected Kem. “When I was writing the song, I had them both in mind, but to actually hear each of their unmistakable voices on the record, it’s a beautiful thing and an absolute blessing. This was my first time working with Ms. Patti in the studio. She was sharp, she was elegant, she was a true professional, she was very sweet to me and she has become one of my favorite people on the planet.”

The 14-track album blends traditional holiday classics and original holiday songs co-written by Kem, his daughter Troi and Melanie Rutherford.
