Won’t He do it? Kirk Franklin biopic in the works at Sony

by

ABC/Fred LeeGospel legend Kirk Franklin is getting the Hollywood biopic treatment.

Deadline has learned DeVon Franklin is producing a film based on the life of the 14-time Grammy-winning artist. The yet-untitled project will follow Franklin from his humble beginnings to his meteoric rise as “the King of Gospel Music.” The feature will also highlight Franklin’s tumultuous journey to the top of his field.

DeVon will produce under his Franklin Entertainment banner, while Kirk will serve as an executive producer through his label Fo Yo Soul Entertainment.

Since his debut 1993 album, Kirk Franklin & The Family, Franklin has been a staple in gospel music. In addition to selling a million copies of his first album, the Grammy-Award winning artist has since made history by becoming the first artist in history to top all five Billboard gospel charts at one time.

Franklin’s catalog of songs include “Looking for You”, “Revolution,” “Hosanna,” “Stomp” and “Wanna Be Happy?” among others.

Earlier this year, Franklin released his 13th studio album Long Live Love, which debuted at #1 on Billboard‘s Top Gospel Albums chart.
