You Don’t Even Know My Name: Prince Puts Alicia Keys on Hold 10 Times

by

ABC/Lou RoccoPlatinum selling artist Alicia Keys received the cold should during her first encounter with Prince, as the singer says the “Purple Rain” legend had her on hold 10 times before he agreed to speak with her, reports the New York Post‘s Page Six.

During a small midnight concert at New York City’s Highline Ballroom on Thursday, the 15-time Grammy Award-winning singer opened up about her  first phone chat with the late star.

Keys recalls how she needed to get Prince’s permission to to cover his song “How Come You Don’t Call Me,” and the music legend would not get on the phone with her.

The “Girl On Fire” singer admits that the lengthy and confusing wait “wrecked her confidence,” as a new artist. Fortunately, their professional relationship grew and the singer eventually inducted her colleague into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

Key’s sold-out performance on Thursday wasn’t just about the icon as the singer also gave fans a preview of new music which she called a “new collection of work” that is scheduled to be released sometime this year.
