California First State To Ban Discrimination Against ‘Natural Hair’

by

California is set to become the first state to ban discrimination – against hairstyles. The bill defends ‘natural hair’ by updating anti-discrimination laws to include “traits historically associated with race, including, but not limited to, hair texture and protective hairstyles.” Supporters of the bill argue that workplace dress codes can unfairly discriminate against African-Americans, including schoolchildren.  CA Governor Gavin Newsom is expected to sign the bill into law. This is a big breakthrough for Black women who want to embrace their natural beauty and don’t want to use chemicals on their hair.  While workplaces should have a dress code, discriminating on how God made you is a whole different issue.
