According to recent polls, Black Lives Matter might be the biggest political movement in the country’s 244-year history. At its peak on June 6th, half a million people took to the streets at nearly 550 protests across the fruited plain, reports the New York Times. Numbers crunched by Civis Analytics, a Democratic data firm, reveals that “15 million to 26 million people in the United States have participated in demonstrations over the death of George Floyd and others in recent weeks.” In speaking with scholars and crowd-counting experts, the Times says, “These figures would make the recent protests the largest movement in the country’s history.”
