Tyler Perry and the Motion Picture and Television Fund will both receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Academy Awards on April 25th. Academy Award president, David Rubin, said that “Tyler’s cultural influence extends far beyond his work as a filmmaker. He has quietly and steadily focused on humanitarian and social justice causes from the beginning of his career, caring for people who are most often ignored.” The MPTF is being recognized in its 100th year for providing emotional and financial support to entertainment industry members. There have only been 39 recipients since 1957 and this year marks the first time an organization will be receiving the award, which is the Motion Picture Television Fund.
