The NFL football cornerback, who has played with the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers, was arraigned on five criminal charges Friday after he was arrested Wednesday after police said he crashed his car in a construction zone along a busy highway east of Seattle and then tried to break into his in-laws’ home in the suburb of Redmond, Wash.

NFL player Richard Sherman has apologized for a drunken incident in which he terrorized his in-laws and threatened to kill himself. “I am deeply remorseful for my actions Tuesday night,” reads an Instagram message posted by the cornerback on Friday. “I behaved in a manner I am not proud of. I have been dealing with some personal challenges over the last several months, but that is not an excuse for how I acted.” Sherman, who on Friday was charged with five misdemeanors in connection with the incident, goes on to say, “The importance of mental and emotional health is extremely real and I vow to get the help I need.”
