Jury Deliberations Begin In Derek Chauvin Trial

by

After more than two weeks of testimony, the fate of Derek Chauvin is now with the jury. Jury deliberations in the murder trial of the former Minneapolis police officer are now underway, after closing arguments were delivered on Monday. Chauvin is charged with two counts of murder and one count of manslaughter in the death of George Floyd, which kicked off massive nationwide protests last year. Prosecutors attempted to prove that Floyd died as a result of Chauvin pinning his knee on Floyd’s neck.  The defense has argued that Floyd’s death was due to other causes. The city of Minneapolis has brought in 3,000 National Guard troops to help with more security once the verdict is announced.  Several other major U.S. cities including Houston and Dallas are also taking extra security measures.
