Jermaine Dupri has sued Sony Music Entertainment, claiming the company underpaid and concealed royalties from his work with artists like Mariah Carey, Usher, and Kris Kross.
The Grammy-winning producer seeks at least $18 million in damages, alleging Sony engaged in deceptive practices to harm him and his label, So So Def. He accuses Sony of hiding royalties owed on his catalog for over 20 years and breaching contracts by not revealing accounting methods.
The lawsuit describes Dupri as a leading figure in Southern hip-hop and R&B, citing his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and his 2006 Grammy for Best R&B Song.
