Ella Jones Becomes First African American Mayor of Ferguson

by

Ella Jones

For the first time in city history, Ella Jones has become the first African-American and first female mayor Tuesday night. The vote comes nearly six years after protests erupted across the country over the death of black, unarmed teen Michael Brown after he was shot by a white cop.
KMOV says the returns from the county’s board of elections show that Jones took 54% of the vote. Jones has worked as a chemist and church pastor and had been on Ferguson city council since 2015.
Why did it take so long for Ferguson to have an African American or a woman as mayor? Do you think people voted with George Floyd in mind? Will you vote with Floyd in mind?  Just wondering…
