Ledisi is set to play legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in the biopic Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story. Columbus Short will take on the role of Martin Luther King. Mahalia Jackson in real life had a unique friendship with Martin Luther King and a strong commitment to the Civil Rights Movement. She accompanied MLK to rallies and offered inspiration and encouragement of MLK’s “I Have a Dream” Speech. The film is set during the tumultuous period between 1956 and 1963.
