A new study finds what many Black women have heard for years: natural hair could cost them a job. The Duke University study finds that discrimination against natural Black hairstyles is prevalent among those making hiring decisions. The study compared 4 different job candidates: a Black woman with natural hair, a Black woman with straight hair, a white woman with curly hair, and a white woman with straight hair. Black women with natural hair were marked for lower professionalism and competence. Those women also did not get recommended for interviews as often as the other women. Have you experienced this kind of discrimination? Are you glad that some states are legislating against hair bias?
