Ex-Dallas Chief David Brown to Head Chicago Police Dept.

by

David Brown

Chicago has a new police chief — and he’s a Texan.
Former Dallas Police Chief David Brown — a “leader who commands respect” — has been hired to lead the Chicago Police Department, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Thursday. Brown’s appointment, which puts him in charge of the police force in the country’s third-largest city, came just hours after Lightfoot announced the coronavirus-related deaths of several officers. “Death has come directly to David Brown’s doorstep,” Lightfoot said.
Brown, 59, had accrued more than 30 years of law enforcement experience before retiring from the Dallas Police Department in 2016. “We are Chicago and we deserve the best,” Lightfoot said. “And in this time, this moment, David Brown is the absolute best.”
Can you think of a worse time to start a new job? Would you want to lead the police force in a city where so much violence occurs?
