As previously reported, John Legend had no problem supporting the Surviving R. Kelly docu-series and standing with the victims who had to experience such trauma. But the executive producer of the series, Dream Hampton, admitted that there were far more celebrities he asked to be apart of the docu-series. He explained that he asked Lady Gaga, Erykah Badu, Celine Dion, Jay-Z, Dave Chapelle, Mary J. Blige, and Lil Kim.

Fans have expressed their disgust and backlash of these celebrities for their lack of participation believing that their silence is their approval of R. Kelly’s actions. Nonetheless, Hampton expressed he believes: “It’s not because they support him, it’s because it’s so messy and muddy. It’s turning away that has allowed this to go on.”
