Colin Kaepernick NEVER said he would stand for the National Anthem

San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick didn’t stand for the National Anthem before a recent preseason game. That got people riled up. He told NFL Media, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” Of course you get people who say this country gave him an opportunity he wouldn’t get anywhere else. But to me this is all about perspective. To see people who look like you getting murdered and the murderers getting away with it on the level that it’s reached, is a unique perspective that most people don’t have. To the people that say if you can’t respect this country, then leave, you’re not worth having a conversation with. Read more here.
