Stevie Wonder Shares His Last Words to Aretha Franklin

by

In an interview with CBS This Morning on Friday [August 17], Stevie Wonder spoke about his last meeting with Aretha Franklin and the final words he spoke to the late singer. As previously reported, Wonder flew from Los Angeles to Detroit to see Franklin before she passed.

Wonder stated, “She wasn’t able to speak back but her family felt that she could hear me, so I said all the things I’ve always said and told her ‘say hello to my sister.”

Wonder got very emotional as he explained that just two months ago him and Franklin were planning to do a song together. He went on to describe Franklin’s spirit and the impact she had on the music industry and the world altogether. He explained:

“Even with whatever turmoil that may have been happening in her life, even in her illness, she did not want to put that on anybody. She believed, I think that most of all she was doing God’s work, and she was. She brought joy to a lot of lives.”
