Despite getting 16 nominations at the Emmy Awards earlier this year, Ava DuVernay‘s Netflix miniseries ‘When They See Us,’ received no recognition from The Hollywood Foreign Press Association when the organization announced the nominees for the 2020 Golden Globe. The film, which tells the true story of The Central Park Five from the late 80’s, was lauded by viewers and critics alike for its gripping content and outstanding acting. Many on social media are expressing their disappointment for its absence and the overall lack of racial diversity among this year’s class of nominees. #BlackFilmsMatter
