Over the course of the Labor Day weekend, social media has been in a frenzy about one man’s occupation in which some chose to shame and others chose to glorify. Geoffrey Owens, best known as the son-in-law of Bill Cosby on The Cosby Show, was spotted working as a cashier at Trader Joe’s in New Jersey. A fan took a picture which soon became the basis of a Daily Mail story job shaming the actress while nonetheless, obviously hard at work.
On the contrary, Fox News picked up the story and it managed to take a turn for the better. A slew of well known actors showed their support of Owens by describing similar situations of multiple side gigs they have endured themselves. Blair Uderwood, Justine Bateman from Family Ties, Terry Crews from Everybody Hates Chris, and Chris Rankin from Harry Potter were a few of many who chose to tweet their respects to Owens despite the Daily Mail’s negative approach to the story. Read them below.
I swept floors AFTER the @NFL. If need be, I’d do it again. Good honest work is nothing to be ashamed of. https://t.co/8mseCpaIqz

#NOSHAME in good, honest, hard work. He’s being a man in doing what he needs to do to provide for himself and his family. Much respect to you Sir! https://t.co/rQoNdnj6bd

So, 26 years after one TV job, this guy looks differently (shock) and is earning an honest living at a Trader Joe’s. The people taking his picture and passing judgment are trash. https://t.co/OUbOORk6jW
