The young Dallas girl who was one of the latest victims of rampant gun violence in the city was laid to rest Friday.
On August 3rd, 9-year old Brandoniya Bennett was tragically caught in the cross hairs of a dispute over lyrics between two Dallas rappers over a week ago. During her funeral at the packed New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, mourners made a plea to “stand up to gun violence.”
Brandoniya was sitting on her couch in her family’s Old East Dallas townhouse eagerly anticipating the start of the new school year, when gunshot rang out from at least two men who had been looking for someone else in a different unit. They went around back and started shooting when bullets penetrated the wrong apartment.
A 19-year old, Dallas rapper Tyrese Simmons, suspect later turned himself in to police.
It was an emotional day for the family of 9-year-old Brandoniya Bennett.
