ABC News Radio Judging by the official trailer, you aren’t going to want to miss WE tv’s upcoming original series Growing Up Hip Hop, which chronicles the lives of young adults looking to step out of their famous parents’ shadows. Angela Simmons, daughter of rap pioneer Rev. Run of Run- D.M.C, reveals to ABC Radio why she’s excited about the show, which she co-executive produced.

“The fans can expect lot of really great stuff, I mean there’s definitely a great side — you get to really know all of the children on the show and I think that’s what’s really cool,” she says. “For me, this is the first show that I’m actually producing and it’s been a project that’s been in the works for a while, so I’m really glad everyone gets to see it comes to light now.”

Romeo Miller, son of Master P, tells ABC Radio why this show is unlike anything else on TV.

“You know, it’s bigger than just a lot of B.S. or a lot of negativity. This show, when you watch it you’re going to learn something at the end of each episode,” Romeo says. “You’re going to learn something more about each castmate and you’re going to find that we are more relatable then people think. So you know, even the cast that’s around me, everybody I feel on this show is going to make their imprint and a difference in the world one day, and that’s why I love this show.”

Other cast members include Damon “Boogie” Dash, son of former Roc-A-Fella Records music and media mogul, Damon Dash; Kristinia DeBarge, daughter of James DeBarge from the legendary yet troubled group DeBarge; TJ Mizell, son of the late Jam Master Jay, one-third of the famous rap group Run-D.M.C.; and Egypt Criss, daughter of Sandra “Pepa” Denton from Salt-N-Pepa and rap icon Treach from Naughty by Nature.

Growing Up Hip Hop premieres Thursday, January 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
