Harpo, IncAva DuVernay has tapped a legendary actress for her upcoming anthology series at OWN.
On Tuesday, the network announced that Oscar and Emmy-winning actress Cicely Tyson has joined the cast of Cherish The Day as a series regular. The casting makes Tyson, who’s 94, one of the oldest– if not the oldest — series regular on television.
She joins The Mindy Project‘s Xosha [zosha] Roquemore and Underground star Alano Miller in the cast.
The series follows Roquemore as Gently James and Miller as Evan Fisher, a couple who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles over the course of five years and eight episodes. Tyson will play Miss Luma Lee Langston, a legendary star of stage and screen. Miss Luma encourages Gently, her live-in assistant, to pursue a romance with Evan.
As previously noted, DuVernay’s series will chronicle the “stirring romance” of one couple per season, and each episode will span a single day. The first season will focus on “significant moments in a relationship that compel us to hold true to the ones we love.”
Cherish the Day is set to premiere in the winter of 2020.
