Nick Farrell/Sony MusicMany would agree that Beyonce is an icon in her own right, but how does she compare to Michael Jackson? Well, according to her long-time backup dancer Ashley Everett, Queen Bey definitely left her mark in the same manner as the late MJ.
In an interview with Vibe, Everett reveals that Bey’s “Single Ladies” was one of her favorite videos, and says it rivals the King of Pop’s “Thriller.”
“I guess what comes to mind is what everyone else thinks of it and how iconic it became. It’s like the ‘Thriller’ of that time,” she explains of Beyonce’s visual, which has garnered more than 393-million views on YouTube. “It’s just insane because we worked on it for weeks, not knowing what was going to become of it, but knowing that it would probably be a hit but not really knowing the impact it would have on music and dance. It’s just iconic. I feel grateful to have been a part of it.”
After working with Beyonce for over eight years, Everett also reveals what its like working with the singer. “Working with someone like her with her work ethic, you don’t have a choice. We all have to be hard workers and if we’re not, then you’re not going to last,” Everett says before adding that Bey’s “work ethic is unreal to watch, be around and to experience. It’s inspiring.”
