Bond Denied for Father & Son Charged in Ahmaud Arbery Shooting

by

In Brunswick, GA, a father and son have been arrested in connection with the tragic, unprovoked killing of a 25-year old black man who was jogging through his neighborhood when the incident unfolded in February.

Nearly two months after pursuing Ahmaud Arbery as he jogged, attempting to stop him and eventually shooting him as he attempted to defend himself, 64-year old Gregory McMichael and his 34-year-old son, Travis McMichael were arrested early Friday.

They were denied bond after being charged with murder last night.

An arrest came quickly after a cell phone video of the altercation went viral earlier this week.  According to reports the local DA had been in possession of the tape since day one, but passed on seeking charges.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) made the arrest.

Gregory told police that he and his son chased after Arbery because they suspected him of being a burglar.

Arbery was killed Feb. 23 just outside the port city of Brunswick, Ga.   This past Friday, May 9 would have been his 26th birthday.
