Cassie talks evolving as a woman of many titles

In the interview, the pop-R&B singer reflected on her short-lived but successful music career and says she always dreamed of becoming a singer.

Cassie was discovered in 2004 by Grammy-nominated music producer Ryan Leslie who produced her debut single, “Me +U.” The song hit number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 song chart and was featured on her self-titled debut album, which peaked at number 4 on the all-genre Billboard 200 Albums chart. It also featured her other Billboard Hot 100 hit, “Long Way 2 Go.

Cassie is also regarded as one of the trendsetters of the famous shaved-head hairstyle, which she debuted in Wiz Khalifa’s “Roll Up” video in 2011. 

As one of R&B’s premier acts, the 34-year-old flexed her independence with singles like, “King of Hearts,” “Official Girl” featuring Lil Wayne and “Must Be Love” featuring her ex-lover Diddy. Instead of a sophomore album, she released her 2013 mixtape, RockabyeBaby.

Cassie went on to collaborate with heavyweight artists such as Fabolous, Akon, Rick Ross, Meek Milland G-Eazy and more. She joined Nicki Minaj on “The Boys,” a standout track from Nicki’s album, Pink Friday: Reloaded – The Re-Up. 

Cassie has also starred in films such as Step Up 2: The Streets, The Perfect Match, Honey 3: Dare to Dance and Spenser Confidential. 

As a singer, dancer, actress, model, and trendsetter, Cassie says she could care less about the titles and more about being remembered as an artist who has all the heart for art.
