Chloe x Halle can now add cover stars to their impressive resume, as the latest celebrities to grace the cover of Essence‘s first-ever digital cover.
On the heels of their Super Bowl 53 performance of “America the Beautiful,” the Grammy-nominated sisters detail their road to the prestigious awards ceremony.
“We still feel like we’re dreaming about the Grammy nominations,” Halle tells Essence.
“We’re forever grateful, and we know that no more matter what happens, this honor, it will stay with us for the rest of our lives — and it just inspires us to keep going,” she adds.
Chloe x Halle are set to perform at the Grammys this Sunday on CBS, where they’ll compete in the Best New Artist and the Best Urban Contemporary Album categories.
Elsewhere in the interview, the Atlanta-born songbirds speak at great length about their cultural pride and admiration for their mentor, Beyoncé.
“As black women, we are feeling incredibly empowered,” Chloe said. “We’re not afraid to speak our minds — and we owe that to all of the beautiful black women who came before us and are killing it right now.”
They add, “We wouldn’t change our skin color for anything. We love being black women and are so proud to say that.”
