As fans dive into the last season of Orange Is the New Black, star and singer Danielle Brooks is offering a taste of what’s to come next with her debut EP, FOUR

Fittingly compiled of only four tracks, the EP finds Brooks’ soulful vocals on full display as she shares her truth through original songs.

“I have struggled, more than people know, with really coming to love my voice,” Brooks told ABC Radio ahead of the project’s release. “And, so for me this is like ‘Girl, it’s perfect.'”

She continued, “This record is exactly what it’s supposed to be. [I’ve] told the four stories that [I] wanna tell and they are truthful and come from [my] heart.”

The effort also pays homage to OItNB on the cut “Seasons,” which is featured on the critically acclaimed Netflix series. Brooks, who portrays the role of Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson on the show, says she felt inclined to highlight the bond she’s built with her cast mates.

“I wrote the song for my Orange girls and built the song’s story by trying to incorporate as many of their names that I could,” she explained. “We are a family and this song is my gift to them in honor of the love they have shown me and lifelong sisterhood we built together.”

Brooks also reveals she performed an emotional rendition of the song for the OItNB cast and crew on the last day of filming, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room afterward.

FOUR is available now via the usual digital platforms.
