Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union couldn’t have been prouder of daughter Zaya’s first red carpet appearance

Andreas Branch/The Truth AwardsDwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union proudly escorted their daughter Zaya to the sixth annual Truth Awards in Los Angeles over the weekend. The NBA champ re-introduced his daughter to the world Sunday on Instagram and announced her first red carpet appearance.

“We couldn’t have been prouder of how she handled the questions that were asked of her,” he wrote. “She has emerged as one of the young faces and voices for the LGBTQ+ community.” 

In association with philanthropist Sheryl Lee Ralph and her non-profit The DIVA Foundation, the annual awards show highlights the accomplishments of the the Black LGBTQ+ community and their allies. Hosted by Better Brothers LA, it also provides funding for scholarships that support educational opportunities for youth in the LGBTQ+ community. 

Union enjoyed the evening, calling it “epic” and “filled with so much love & a real sense of community.” She felt it was important for Zaya’s first red carpet to be with her black LGBTQIA+ community.

“It was important for Zaya to be a part of such a beautiful night & reminding her of all the love & support she has. We were moved to tears so many times throughout the night. So much gratitude,” Union wrote

Dressed in custom suits, the Wade family was also honored to present their good friends Jason Bolden and Adair Curtis, stars of Netflix’s Styling Hollywood showWade credits the couple for helping guide them through Zaya’s coming out process. The family has seen unwavering support from family, friends and celebrities like Cardi B., encouraging Zaya to live her truth. 

“We keep moving forward. We keep leading with love, light and hope fora better more inclusive world,” Union wrote on Instagram. “Stay put and stay mad if you want. We keep it pushing. Always.”
