Columbia RecordsThe soundtrack to the hit Fox TV series Empire has debuted in the top spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart after selling 130 thousand copies during its first week of release. It’s the first TV soundtrack to debut at #1 since three albums inspired by another Fox show, Glee, did so in 2010.
The soundtrack features contributions from Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Juicy J, Rita Ora, Charles Hamilton and Estelle, as well as original songs from cast members including Terence Howard, Jussie Smollett, Serayah McNeal, and Bryshere “Yazz” Gray.
The Empire soundtrack beat back some serious competition: Madonna‘s Rebel Heart album bows at #2, with 121 thousand copies sold for the week ending Sunday. It’s Madonna’s 21st top-10 album.
