Gabrielle Union to produce new comedy series ‘Black Coffee’

ABC/Image Group LAGabrielle Union is teaming up with Morgan Cooper, the man behind the the viral concept trailer Bel-Air, for a brand-new comedy series.

Deadline has learned that Cooper will write, co-executive produce and direct the comedy series Black Coffee for the short-form streaming service Quibi. Union will co-executive produce the project.

Black Coffee follows a former Kansas City basketball star who becomes a national barista champion after suffering a major sports injury. As a result, he decides to move back home and open up a coffee shop in his old neighborhood in hopes of revitalizing it.

This is the latest project for Union, who stars in and executive-produces the Bad Boys spinoff L.A.’s Finest on Spectrum.

Union joins a growing list of stars who who’ve signed up for their own short-form projects on the Quibi, including Kevin HartIdris ElbaTrevor Noah and Queen Latifah.

Quibi launches April 6, 2020.
