Earlier this month, Jhene Aiko replayed real-life events in the video for “Eternal Sunshine.” Now, she’s giving us a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the Jay Ahn-directed video.

“We reenacted the car accident that I was in. I’m ascending from my body. I basically died in this video,” she says in an on-set interview with Billboard.com.

In the completed video, we see Jhene recall her 2013 crash with her sister Miyoko, daughter Namiko, and Namiko’s father O’Ryan. “Miyoko and Nami, my sister and my daughter… I got them to reenact their parts. I wasn’t driving in the real accident, but for the sake of the video I am. I was in the backseat,” says Jhene, who did her own stunts for the video.

The powerful visual also pays tribute to Jhene’s brother, Miyagi Hasani Ayo Chilombo, who she lost to cancer. “This is the house we grew up in,” Jhene says in front of her grandmother’s house. “It’s the house my brother passed away in… It was like I said it was all the best memories. Our best memories were here.”

The song is lifted from her debut album Souled Out, available now.
