Jacob Latimore anticpates so much more range on season three of ‘The Chi’

by

Sandy Morris/SHOWTIMEThe Chi star Jacob Latimore says the firing of Jason Mitchell has opened up series to display “so much more range” from the show’s cast.

“Because there is no replacing Jason Mitchell; he is a phenomenal actor,” Latimore tells the Chicago Sun-Times. “I just feel like we as a cast, we have so many more colors to show. And I just think this time around the whole entire cast — you see so much more range from everybody.”

Mitchell was fired from the show last season, following allegations of misconduct from a former cast member.

Latimore says each character on The Chi is still developing, including his character of Emmett Washington, a single black father of multiple children struggling to make ends meet in the streets of Chicago.

[Emmett] has a weakness for women, like most young men,” Latimore explains. “He’s trying to make ends meet not only for himself but for his children, so I think what’s really important about him is that you really see that he’s trying to build a legacy more so than just making a few dollars to buy some sneakers.”

Season three of The Chi premieres this Sunday, June 21, on Showtime.
