Well we didn’t need yet another new magazine cover to let us know this beautiful and talented young lady is a ‘Bad**s Woman.’
Since the release of her ‘unofficial’ demo album ‘The Audition’ back in 2003, we knew she was something special and definitely an up an coming star in the making with the single ‘Tightrope.’
Sixteen years later she had not disappointed as she has parlayed her singing career into a successful acting career as well.
This year she was listed as one of InStyle magazine’s ‘Bad**s Women, and the the August cover gives us a glimpse as to why she deserves the title.
Inside the issue Monae says she talks about loving the skin she’s in.
“I’ve always wanted to redefine what a cool young black woman looks like in the music industry,” the “Make Me Feel” singer told the magazine. I was never interested in fitting into a system that wasn’t built for me or with me in mind. I’m interested in burning that s*** down and building something new.”
She’s starred the hit films Moonlight and Hidden Figures. Look for her in the soon-to-be released Harriet Tubman biopic Harriet.
“I don’t look at myself as just an actor or a musician,” Monae tells InStyle. “I am an artist, and I have a responsibility to tell the truth. I use different mediums, but it’s all storytelling to me.”
Congrats Janelle of wearing your new label well!!!
